Log Flume at the Lagoon History Project.Rattlesnake Rapids was eventually built with a different layout that does not allow for the proposed extension of Log Flume. The ride travels past several picnic terraces as well as a bright orange Sit & Smoke Station during its journey.Īt one time Lagoon had presented plans to the Farmington city council that included an expansion of Log Flume, as well as a new rapids ride. Recent development at Lagoon has encroached on the ride's setting. Originally the ride traveled through a remote area of the park that resembled wilderness. The waterwheel is actually turned by a motor and not the small amount of water falling into it. The rolling and undulating, the sliding channel is patchy, the modeling gas field is magnificent, the adult cruise ship slowly drifts along the channel under the action of water, and is lifted to the peak of the 15-meter-high slide. We have a real lake, and real trees, real beauty. But our Log Flume is the perfect length, and its beautiful. It would be interesting to see what the fastest Log Flume is, and whether or not its us. When Lagoon installed the ride they added split-log paneling to the ride's edges, log-cabin like structures and a wooden waterway with a waterwheel that serves no functional purpose. The water log flume rides is a large water slide type ride. I mean, the log is ZOOMING down the trough faster than any other log flume Ive ever ridden. Much of the ride's rustic theming was not originally part of the ride when it was in Oregon. The ride was manufactured by Arrow Development in 1968 and was originally installed at Pixieland in Oregon in 1969, and was bought by Lagoon and installed in 1975 after Pixieland had closed down.ĭespite the fact that Arrow Development, Later Arrow Dynamics, relocated close to Lagoon, this is the only ride currently at Lagoon known to have been built by the company. This seating arrangement is similar to Jet Star 2's. Riders are seated inline in two seats that fit 2-3 people. At the top of the hill the boat suddenly tips downward into a water-filled chute and races back down, causing a large splash when it re-enters the waterway. After a minute and a half journey, the boat is lifted to the top of a 30-foot hill by a conveyor belt. Riders travel in a log-shaped boat around a level tree-lined waterway at a slow speed.

![]() There has been a lot of talk on other threads that you have to use Rage's hosting service with Everweb, even though Rage claims you can use any provider. I finally reinstalled my iWeb site with absolutely no problem. I am also working with Rage to figure it out. I spent a lot of time with them, Machighway, and could find no problem at that end. I even had them wipe my files so that I could do a clean install. I tried the Everweb ftp provided, Cyberduck, Filezilla and it just won't appear on my provider. Most SEO is built into the program, but you need a couple of Roddy's widgets to do a couple of things.Īnyway, the great day comes and…. Roddy helped out by making a bunch of widgets which really speed up the process. There are basic support videos and a good blog, but no manual worth the name. It has a slightly steeper learning curve than iWeb, but once you get the hang of it, it goes pretty quickly. No you can't import the files, you go from scratch. I bought Everweb and spent the next several weeks rebuilding my website on Everweb. There is an iWeb to EverWeb video tutorial as well that can help you transfer your website. There has been a lot of discussion here about an iWeb replacement, especially Everweb. There is virtually no learning curve since they are very similar, EverWeb is actively developed for Mavericks and it includes more modern features that can benefit your website. My recommendation is that it’s time to replace iWeb with EverWeb. You no longer have to go through each page on your site whenever you want to make a small design change.Īs of this writing, EverWeb 1.3 is in beta testing and includes Password Protection (The ability to have unlimited passwords for different parts of your site, not just your entire site), 404 not found pages and direct FTP publishing. Future updates to your site will also be much more manageable. This also means that re-designing your iWeb site in EverWeb just got much easier. When you want to update your site’s design, you just update the Master Page and your entire site is updated. ![]() Recently EverWeb introduced Master Pages which means you can design your site once and then apply that design to all pages on your site. That’s a big shame and something that will hold back your website from its full potential.Īs we’ve discussed before, EverWeb is a great iWeb alternative. New CSS techniques that let you properly style text without converting them to images and new, modern styling techniques will never be supported in iWeb. ![]() For example, it is not possible to create Retina ready websites for iPhones, iPads and Retina MacBooks. In addition, iWeb will never support the newer features introduced with each operating system or hardware. The reality is that the work arounds are getting a bit tedious now. These features include Google Maps, MobileMe Galleries, Password Protection, Blog search, and Blog commenting.Īlthough we have discussed some alternatives for the above such as how to add Google Maps to an iWeb site. The long answer is that there is a growing number of features that have stopped working, and they are mostly related to MobileMe closing. The short answer is, yes it will work just as it does on Lion and Mountain Lion. Although Mavericks has been out for a while now, iWeb users who have not yet upgraded have been emailing me wondering if iWeb works properly on Mavericks (OS X 10.9). They are ideal for people who already have a built-up base of audience through their blogs or channels. The first problem with whiskey stones is that they don’t improve the taste of - or experience drinking - the whiskey at all. (I’ll still probably do the PowerPoint for a PowerPoint party some other time.) Now, as a whiskey lover, I could make a PowerPoint presentation detailing all the reasons why whiskey stones gifting needs to stop, but in the interest of clear formatting I’m just going to lay it out for you here. It’s time to accept the truth we all know deep down - whiskey stones are not a good gift and nobody really likes them all that much. We’ve decided that, in the year of our lord 2020, the whiskey stone conspiracy must stop. And every year, we spend $30 on glorified rocks and perpetuate the myth that whiskey stones are a good gift and that people actually like getting them. Although the turbulence effect states that stirring or agitating a fluid will increase heat transfer, or cooling, a glass of whisky is just too small to yield any noticeable results, according to Sahin.Every year, during the holiday season, we struggle with an age-old question: What should I get that one uncle who I don’t really know anything about? And every year, we are told - by the holy trinity of friends, Google, and gift guides - that the answer to our question is: whiskey stones. Shaking and stirring is a good way to cool off a cocktail, but don’t get too carried away trying to cool off your whisky. So as the ice cube in your dram slowly melts, it is not only holding its cold temperature, but also cooling your whisky. It takes a crazy amount of energy to turn ice from solid to liquid, and according to latent heat, temperature change does not occur during a phase change. Stones have a lower heat capacity than ice, meaning it is way easier to raise the temperature of a stone than a piece of ice.Īs ice slowly melts, your whisky benefits from the power of a phase change. ![]() Heat capacity, or specific heat, refers to the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of a substance one degree. Those trendy little soapstones can’t match ice’s cooling powers thanks to a thermodynamic material property called heat capacity. The same volume of small cheater ice or crushed ice has much greater surface area than a single cube, therefore enhancing the cooling of the whisky. The verdict is in-the smaller ice made our whisky freezing cold-actually even colder: 23º F! That’s because the heat transfer, or the cooling process of the whisky, is proportional to the surface area of the ice. The Smaller the Ice, the Colder the Whisky Iskender Sahin, professor and associate chair of mechanical engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, explains what’s happening in the glass. We tested each of these methods to evaluate the ways in which they cool and dilute whisky over time, so you can select the right fit for your whisky the next time you’re chillin’. At the extreme end, whisky stones promise to chill without dilution. Today, large, square ice cubes that melt slowly are de rigueur for both bars and at-home drinking. The next question: Which type of ice should you use in your drink of choice? Years ago, most bars served that hollow “cheater ice” designed to melt on contact and fill your glass. ![]() I f you enjoy an occasional whisky on the rocks, congratulations! You’ve already made the first of many difficult decisions whisky lovers face. ![]() It’s not necessary is it really? Fight Crab instead asks the simple question, which crab would win in a fight? SpriteRenderer creates two submeshes, one per island however, UI Image extends the rect so it covers the whole image. Very interesting results in the third example. an image containing different figures separated by transparent areas? And what happens now, if we import a PNG with islands, e.g. One could argue if the trade-off is beneficial or not. But the mesh looks much more complicated now, why is that? Unity tries to fit the sprite the best it cans without introducing too many polygons, so that is the result we get. Likewise, the same happened in example 2. It might help seeing the differences with concrete examples. Lastly, both can be used with sprite atlases in order to reduce draw calls. The reason for creating meshes will be explained in the next section we will see how important it is, as it has an important performance impact. One of the key differences between sprites and images is that sprites support the automatic creation of meshes out of it, where UI images consist always of rectangles. ![]() As you might have guessed, it is relatively expensive to draw them on mobile. UI Images are also rendered in the transparent geometry queue (Render.TransparentGeometry), unless you use the overlay rendering mode in which case it will be rendered through Canvas. You can position sprites just like all other objects through its transform, but images will use a RectTransform instead so as to help positioning the image in your interface system.Sprites are rendered in the transparent geometry queue (unless you use another material than the default). UI Images, on the other hand, have to be inside a canvas (a GameObject having a Canvas component). When it comes to the hierarchy, you can place sprites wherever you want in your scene. Comparison: SpriteRenderer vs CanvasRenderer Mark it as sprite (2D and UI) as shown in the screenshot below. Just drop the desired image (in PNG preferably) in the assets folder and click on it to access the inspector settings. ![]() It is straightforward to use sprites in Unity. Sprites are images that will be rendered in either your 2d/3d scene or in your interface. They are not directly applied to meshes like textures, but rather on rectangles/polygons (at the end, they are meshes too, so not such of a big difference). Sprites are basically semi-transparent textures that are imported as sprites in its texture import settings. This blog entry will be based on Unity 5.3.4f1. In this post you will find a more detailed version of the original slides I prepared for it. I didn’t find much information about it so I decided to prepare a presentation in my company to help making it clear. While working in a project for one of our clients, I was asked about the difference between sprites (SpriteRenderer) and UI images (CanvasRenderer) in Unity. ![]() Piedmont Healthcare: "How Trans Fat Affects Brain Function. The bad news is that you can't just grab any old bottle of juice off the supermarket shelf if you want to avoid a sugar crash. Here's how to figure out which brands are healthy and which are only pretending to be good for you. That said, some juices are lower in sugar than others and can be a smart option (in moderation!) when you need to increase your intake of fruit. Studies have shown that when people perceive food as healthier, we tend to eat-or drink-more of it. Now you know you should always pick an apple over a bottle of apple juice when given the choice, but does that mean that all fruit juice is terrible for you? No, but you have to be cautious: because juices are often touted as a health food, it makes them dangerously misleading.
